Jo'burg Art Gallery

This wall caught my eye as we drove to get pastries after wandering through the gallery. I had to take a picture--the peeling paint reminded me so much of the exhibit we went to see--the artist used a lot of layering in his work, and talked about making people think about what is hidden beneath the layers we find around us. Good stuff.

Winter is coming

I spent the past few days at a conference held just outside Jo'burg. It's a bit colder down there than it is here in Pretoria, and I was glad I brought my favorite long socks.

After Sunday's hike, we headed for the Van Gaalen Cheese Farm to celebrate Bryan's birthday....with cheese. Mmm, cheese.

On Sunday, a group of us went to Pelindaba Nature Reserve for an "Adventure Hike" sponsored by a local restaurant.

Progress

This is Carissa after today's physical therapy appointment. We were running errands at Makro, where I go frequently to restock community supplies at Pangani. Her latest discovery: "Hey guys, I can touch my head!!"

Pizza party!

Granny's daughter, Emily, as well as a neighbor of hers, are planning to start selling pizzas as a business in their neighborhood in Soshanguve. A bunch of us brought out pizza makings this afternoon, and Daleen taught the women how to make the dough.


















This is Anna, one of Granny's daughters, making pizza dough. She'd never made or eaten pizza before...and greatly enjoyed doing both tonight!























As we made pizzas, the kids played outside, and later called us out to hear them sing (a good morning song and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" were the program for the evening). After the singing, they danced for us. Of course!

Dinner at Petunia's

Sarah, Carissa, Tyler, and I all had dinner at Petunia's Tuesday night. She invited us over to keep her company--Luc's on a trip in Venezuela right now with InnerChange. Carissa was babysitting the Stewart kids, so we were quite a crowd!

Errands

After a meeting at Potter's House yesterday, Sarah and I stopped by the grocery store. I wasn't sure I had enough cash, so Sarah helped out by adding up the prices. While sitting on the floor.

Jessie

This is a common sight--Jessie sleeping outside our rooms. The other common sight is when she wipes drool on your jeans as she begs for attention.

Easter Sunday

Slumber party...

Katie and I stayed up late to make hot cross buns for our Easter Sunday sunrise service. We decided to make a night of it--Sarah, Katie, and I slept in the lounge since we were getting up so early! Here's me & Katie settling in for the (very short) night. (Yes, Katie's sleeping on beanbag chairs!)

Good Friday

Friday evening, several of us went to Soshanguve to observe Good Friday at Granny's. Us girls hung out with the kids while the adults watched The Passion of the Christ. This is me with Precious!
