Dinner with Carissa

Carissa made a goodbye dinner for all the apprentices (and Kevin, the honorary apprentice).

Thunderstorm

Dogs get scared by thunderstorms, too.

I was sitting in our doorway tonight, with the door wide open, as this was the only way to pick up the wireless internet connection. It was just starting to rain, and the lightning and thunder were already well under way. Since the door was open, Jessie thought it was an invitation and pushed her way inside. While I tried to drag her out, Chippy decided to come on in as well. Carissa and I then had to get two scared, determined, wet dogs back outside. Sigh.

Games

Carissa's friend (and physical therapist) Martelize came to hang out and spend the night on Saturday. Here's us in the coffeehouse playing games...I love Carissa's ghosty hand in this one.

I finished it!

Painting

We've been meaning to get this room painted all year. On Sunday, we finally got to work...

And we concluded the day with dinner out.

Awkward

A series of rather hilariously awkward pictures taken tonight during a game of 30 Seconds (sort of like Catchphrase). Or maybe they were only hilarious to Katie and me...

In progress

These are the pieces of an art project I'm working on for the end of the year...it's called a "heArt Project." Oooo, clever.

Sleepover

Sarah and I invited some of the girls from Granny's to come spend the night at Pangani. Here's us making dinner...

Last braai of the year

Although we have a few more weekends left, our last official Pangani braai was tonight. =(

Dishing up...

Mairin, wearing the headband she had me make for her...

And, finally, my gigantic steak. No, I didn't eat all of it. Yet.

I can't stop with the jacarandas

The sun is out again...

Here's what I'm looking at right now out the window of the coffeehouse:

Cloudy

It's been cold and rainy for the past few days. The jacarandas are blooming against the grey sky, and it's beautiful.

Goodbyes

Goodbye hugs from the Road Trippers...here's me with Melanie. (Or, "Tall Melanie"...to differentiate from Melanie with the Long Hair.) We got to have a cool mentoring chat on the last day of the Road Trip. =)

Celebration Dinner

Friday night, we had a dinner for our Road Trippers to celebrate the past two weeks they've spent with us. Daleen made her famed bobotie, a Malay dish beloved by all.

I'm sick.

Here's a look at what's currently on my nightstand. And I don't mean for reading purposes.

Not pictured: my malaria pills.

Updated to say that you can now add to the above: cough syrup and three different types of colorful pills which I am taking thrice daily. I still don't want to move from my bed if I can help it.

Carissa says hello

This isn't Sarah attacking Carissa as she sleeps. She's administering arm exercises. Please note that Carissa is happily waving.

Building and Birthday

We have a team here from California who is building a house for Granny's next door neighbor, Ma Ntabiseng. I got to hang out with them today and see the progress being made...as well as pitch in doing fun things like moving bricks. Here's Megan hard at work with the mortar, while Sarah looks on.

Back at Pangani tonight, we celebrated Carissa's birthday. Here she is, sitting in her favorite spot in the whole house. She's laughing over the calendar we made her, with pictures of each one of us wearing the arm brace she had to wear after her horse-riding injury back in March!

Han-Han

This is me with Hannah! Hannah was in Jo'burg with Scripture Union, and she joined us here for a week during the Road Trip in May/June...when she shared my room. =) She came back to Pangani for a too-short overnight visit last week, and she's off home to Ireland soon!
