Another Birthday at Spur

Both Kyle and Mosky celebrated their birthdays yesterday. After going to see Pirates of the Caribbean for Kyle's birthday, we headed to Spur for Mosky's birthday.

Iain at Spur--you can still see the pirate stubble. =)

Chippy

This poor dog has been filthy the past few days. He's usually white with black spots. Here, as you can see, he's brown with black and white spots. White where he ran through the sprinkler and the dirt washed off. I wonder if he's trying to layer up on dirt to keep himself warm...

American Princess

That's what it says on the backpack. ;-) This is Tyler walking through the mall last night--carrying Mairin's purple backpack.

Tide Pools at Buffels Bay

Tyler: I'll race you across the rocks!
Me: No!
Tyler: (starts running)
Me: (now running, too) Hey! I said no!

(The erroneous date on this picture is a tip-off that I stole it from Katie.)

Sunset at Cape of Good Hope

More from Cape Town, because I haven't been taking pictures this week. These are more pictures stolen from Sarah, who at the time was the only one with a working camera.

"OSTRICH! We saw OSTRICH!"

Nobody but my family will get that quote...but oh well.

We did see ostrich. While driving from Cape Point to the Cape of Good Hope--just in time for sunset--we passed two ostrich roaming the beach. (Sarah took this picture.)

My Favorite Penguin Signs

Warning: penguins may try to change your oil while you are on the beach.

It is NOT ok to shake hands with the penguins.

My Favorite Non-Penguin Cape Town Signs

We found the secret stash of rockets.

"Feel free to take your rifle when swimming with the fish?" "It's ok to hunt fish with a rifle while snorkeling?" I'm really not sure.

The next three are self-explanatory...

This is for Carissa's mom, who likes my pictures. =)

Day Four: Cape Point

Driving down the peninsula on our favorite toll road:

Exploring tide pools and the beach:

Cape Point, where my camera's batteries died. Stay tuned for amazing sunset views from the Cape of Good Hope, in the form of pictures stolen from the cameras of friends.

Day Four: Table Mountain

(I have to break Day Four into two posts...there are too many good pictures!)

View from the cable car

View from the top

Sarah and I did some hiking around the top of the mountain...there were more amazing views, and this was part of the trail:

We ran into Katie and had a great time taking tons more pictures...and then were late meeting up with Tyler and Carissa. Oh well.

Cape Town, Day Three

Olympia Cafe, Kalk Bay

Boulders Bay (where the penguins are...)

(See, I told you.)

Chapman's Peak Drive is the road in the background of this picture...we called it the 23-Rand road. But it was SO worth it.

Sarah, Tyler, Katie, me, and Carissa at sunset. Awwww.

Cape Town, Day Two

Robben Island

Lunch on the boat (please note on the left: the knife I inadvertently smuggled onto the island, through an apparently ineffective metal detector)

Jo'burg Art Gallery

This wall caught my eye as we drove to get pastries after wandering through the gallery. I had to take a picture--the peeling paint reminded me so much of the exhibit we went to see--the artist used a lot of layering in his work, and talked about making people think about what is hidden beneath the layers we find around us. Good stuff.
